Frequently Asked Questions

Who can play for Grapevine Lacrosse?

GLA serves boys and girls in grades 9–12 who attend schools in Grapevine, Colleyville, HEB, and surrounding communities that do not have a high school lacrosse program. No prior lacrosse experience is required.

I've never played lacrosse before. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Lacrosse is a no-cut sport at GLA, and we welcome players of all experience levels—from first-time athletes to experienced players. Our coaches are committed to helping every player develop, improve, and find a place within the program.

What is Fall Ball?

Fall Ball runs from September through early November and focuses on skill development, reps, team building, and preparation for the spring season. The schedule is designed to be multi-sport friendly and may include scrimmages and optional tournaments.

What does the spring season look like?

The spring season is the Texas Girl's High School Lacrosse League and Texas High School Lacrosse League competitive season and runs from January through late April / early May and includes regular practices, games, district competition, and playoff opportunities.

When are playoffs?

If the team qualifies for playoffs, playoffs occur at the end of the spring season (April–May) and are single elimination. Dates and locations are set by the league and may include out-of-town travel. Details are shared with families once they are finalized.

When does registration open?

Spring registration opens November 1. We encourage families to register early to help with roster planning and to take advantage of payment options.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. Families may choose a payment plan or pay in full. Additional details are provided during registration.

How many days per week are practices?

Practice schedules vary by season and team. Fall Ball typically consists of two practices per week. Spring typically consists of three practices per week. Schedules will be communicated before the season begins.

Do players need their own equipment?

Yes. Players are responsible for providing required lacrosse equipment. Equipment requirements and recommendations will be shared before the season. Additional information about equipment can be found in the resources section.

Is playing time guaranteed?

At the varsity level, playing time is earned and based on what gives the team the best opportunity to succeed. Every player will be coached, developed, and given opportunities to improve.

How should players address questions about their role or playing time?

We encourage players to speak directly with their coaches about their role and what they can do to improve. Learning to seek feedback and advocate for themselves is an important part of the athletic experience.

What is Sixes Lacrosse?

Sixes is a fast-paced version of lacrosse played with 6 players on the field (5 runners and 1 goalie).

Why does GLA Men's Team field a Sixes Team?

Supports participation in THSLL's Sixes programming and helps GLA remain in compliance with league requirements.

Can a player participate in both Sixes and JV/Varsity?

Yes. Players may participate in both Sixes and traditional field lacrosse during the season. Coaches will determine roster assignments and game opportunities based on player development and team needs.

How will families receive updates?

GLA communicates through email, GroupMe, social media, and the website. Families should ensure contact information remains up to date throughout the season.

How can I support the program?

There are many ways to get involved, including volunteering, sponsorships, fundraising efforts, game-day support, and committee participation. We welcome and appreciate family involvement.
